Party Wall matters
The Party Wall etc Act of 1996 is designed to facilitate work to party walls as well as adjacent excavation and construction and when building on a boundary line. The act consists of formal notices to be served by the building owner and a structured method of proceeding to an agreement between the parties if the initial notice does not meet agreement by the adjoining owners. This is formalised in an Award document which is served on both parties. The Award sets out the rights and responsibilities enabling the proposed works to proceed.
We offer a pragmatic service providing advice prior to the finalisation of a scheme, preparing and serving formal notices and acting as the appointed party wall surveyor should a dispute arise. We have acted both as building owners’ surveyors and adjoining owners’ surveyors to resolve disputes.
